National Safe Boating Week

May 17 -23, 2025: We are celebrating the National Safe Boating Week! This 26th annual awareness campaign is lead by the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the National Safe Boating Council. This effort encourages boaters to make the most of their boating adventures by always boating responsibly and wearing a life jacket.
What is responsible boating? There are multiple answers, but they are all easy and un-complicated.
They all decrease the likelihood of an accident on the water and ultimately make excursions more fun.
• Have the appropriate and legally required safety equipment on board
• Know how and when to use the safety equipment
• Do your trip planning and watch the weather
• Keep speeds reasonable and respect other boaters
• Stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and limit alcohol consumption
• Understand navigation aids and the use of the ship channels
• Take a safe boating course
Recognition by Gulf Coast Communities
Our local communities are fully supporting this effort. Bay St. Louis, Biloxi, Gautier, Gulfport, Moss Point, Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, as well as the Jackson County Board of Supervisors are all committed to encouraging boating safety and, in honor of Safe Boating Week will be issuing Proclamations.
