Hello, Long Beach!

The Kiwanis Club of Long Beach will be holding a story time at Long Beach Public Library on Saturday, August 1, at 10 a.m. in the children’s wing.  It is themed around Drew Daywalt’s story The Day the Crayons Quit.  The story will be read by a member of the Kiwanis Club, and a bookmark craft will be provided for children to complete.  We hope you will join us for this special story time.

Preschool Story Time will continue through August.  It is held each Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the children’s wing.  This program is geared towards the 4 and under crowd.  We read a story, make a craft and dance to favorite children’s songs.

The Long Beach Library Board of Trustees meeting on August 14 was moved, and now they will be meeting on July 28 at 4 p.m. in the main wing of the library.

Our Sit, Stay, and READ! Program, sponsored by the Visiting Pet Teams of South Mississippi, is really starting to thrive, and we could not be more excited!  The next program is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, and begins at 10 a.m.  If your child struggles with reading, these trained therapy dogs are not only the perfect audience but also offer a unique solution for children who need encouragement to improve their literacy skills in a nonjudgemental environment.  It’s free, and no registration is required.  However, we do ask that an adult accompany the child for this event.  For more information, please call the library at 228-863-0711.

There are no holidays scheduled for the month of August.

And as a final reminder, the library’s hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.  The library is located at 209 Jeff Davis Avenue.

As always, we thank everyone for their continued support and patronage, and stay safe!
