5th annual Butterfly Count set for October 1

People of all ages are welcome to join in the 5th Annual Butterfly Count for southwest Harrison County on Thursday, October 1. This is an official Butterfly Count that will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the North American Butterfly Association. Craig Marks, author of The Butterflies of Louisiana, will participants through a variety of coastal habitats and assist in the identification of the butterflies.
The Butterfly Count is a family-friendly learning experience that allows for those interested to participate for the whole day or just a portion. Join us for the whole day or for just a portion, and no experience is necessary.
The group will meet in front of the Pass Christian Library at 111 Hiern Avenue at the start of the event at 9:30 a.m. The count is expected to conclude by 3 p.m.
Those attending are asked to provide their own transportation and be responsible for their own safety. Boots or closed-toed shoes are recommended, and water shoes are fine. Participants are encouraged to bring water, snacks and arrange for lunch on their own. Bringing a bug net, binoculars and a camera are also encouraged.
