The Children’s Advocacy Centers of Mississippi (CACM) is set to host its largest One Loud Voice (OLV) Conference to date at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Miss., March 18-20, 2020.
With over 550 expected attendees, the 7th annual conference will offer 54 breakout sessions lead by international, national and state experts over the three days. Topics will include child abuse, child exploitation, multidisciplinary team collaboration and child sex trafficking.
“CACM and child advocacy centers across the state gather in smaller settings throughout the year for a number of reasons,” said Karla Tye, Executive Director of Children’s Advocacy Centers of Mississippi. “But the One Loud Voice Conference offers a unique setting for the child advocacy professionals of Mississippi. It allows everyone the opportunity to learn while sharing first-hand experiences and making connections with fellow professionals across the state.”
CACM utilizes the yearly conference as a way to educate professionals and multidisciplinary team members on new approaches, technologies and techniques of child advocacy. With speakers and instructors from across the nation, the OLV Conference provides a dynamic platform for attendees to engage and learn best practices in dealing with these complex cases.
The conference will have 3 dynamic Keynote speakers, Echelon Front Leadership Instructor, Jason Gardner; Cory Jewell Jenson, international expert and co-director of Center for Behavioral Intervention; and Hope Crenshaw the Executive Director of Teen Health Mississippi.
“Improve your knowledge base about sexual crimes and the people who commit them by attending this workshop,” said Cory Jewell Jenson. “This training may make you cringe, but it will also provide a glimpse into child sexual abuse and sex offender behavior that few people see or understand,” he continued.
A panel presentation is also scheduled to discuss the newly formed Mississippi Human Trafficking Task Force that includes U.S. Attorneys from Mississippi’s Southern and Northern regions, Mike Hurst and Chad Lamar, along with Ashlee Lucas, Mississippi Department of Public Safety’s Human Trafficking Coordinator.
This year CACM is incorporating a new educational experience by offering the opportunity to participate in a learning lab with Thorn and its application, Spotlight. The Spotlight app helps law enforcement find and rescue children who are being sexually exploited and trafficked, and so far has identified 10,500 traffickers and 9,400 children.
“It is CACM’s mission to provide cutting-edge technology and resources to our child advocacy centers across the state,” said Tye. “This year we are thrilled to be partnering with Thorn and the Spotlight application to help educate and combat the child trafficking issue Mississippi is facing.”
