Fire hydrant testing can cause brown water

Posted

Residents of Long Beach may have noticed some sediment in their water recently, as a result of mandatory hydrant testing being conducted by the Long Beach Fire Department. Testing began around the first of April and will continue for approximately two months, depending on weather conditions.

During the testing, the Fire Department will flow hydrants, which will cause sediment to move in the supply lines. All residents are asked to be aware of brown water before they wash clothes.

The Fire Department, along with H20, will do their best to flush the lines at the end of each day, but some sediment will get by. Residents are encouraged to flow their water systems to help alleviate the problem.

Residents may address any questions concerning the testing to Inspector Darden at 228-863-7292.
