MS Gulf Coast Buddy Sports is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity organization that provides recreational sports and leisure opportunities for youths and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other special needs.
Through program sponsors and a grant from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, the Buddy Sports organization has planned a near shore charter boat fishing event for this Saturday, May 1, 2021. In keeping with our theme of programs, Buddy Ball Baseball, Kickin’ It with Buddies Kickball, and Cheer Buddies, this event is called “Fishing with Buddies”.
Near-shore charter boat fishing event details:
On Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 7:00 am-11:30am we will have a near shore charter boat fishing event. We have 12 boats that will take 24 youths and adults with special needs fishing. Each boat will have two participants and a family member or volunteer Fishing Buddy. The boats will load and leave out of the Gulfport Harbor, fish around harbor area for about three hours and then return. We have been approved for this event by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. DMR is providing a support boat. Sea Tow is providing life jackets for the participants. Domino’s is donating pizza for the participants to enjoy when they return from fishing. Waste Pro is providing comfort facilities.
Charter boat loading will take place between 7:30am and 8:00am on Saturday, May 1st. We will fish for about 3 hours and the participants may keep all the legal fish caught, if they so choose.
Through Buddy Sports’ sponsors and the Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks grant, everything is being provided free of charge for the participants and their fishing buddies.
