Library reopens, with some notable changes

By Guest Columnist Renee Rayburn, LBPL Youth and Technology Services

Hello, everyone! We know you have waited a long time to read or hear this. The Long Beach Public Library is once again OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Without rehashing too much of the same things you have been reading for the last few months, we want you to know about the new things you might notice when you walk through the doors.

Starting with…

When you enter the main wing, there are thermometers there to take your temperature at either entrance. It’s all they do each day, and it’s a very grueling job. Please lean in and say hello. We call them Curly, Larry and Moe.

You may also notice that our card catalog stations have not only changed but also may have changed in location, as well. We hope that you will like where we have them now.

Speaking of computers…

Public access computers are once again available to the public in both areas of the library, and patrons can now opt to print in either black and white ($.20) or color ($.30). You must reserve a computer with your Long Beach Public Library card to use the computer, but you can do so from the library’s website

(https://www.longbeach.lib.ms.us). Click on the “Reserve a Computer at the Long Beach Library” link. Your library card must also be in good standing (fine free and no overdues). Call the library if you need assistance at 228-863-0711. The hours available to reserve are 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., or 3 p.m.

The Friends of the Long Beach Public Library will not meet in October, but you can still help support them and your local library by becoming a member! The membership form for the new year is on the Long Beach Public Library’s website or here : https://longbeach.lib.ms.us/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/friendmembership.pdf. We will keep you posted on when their next meeting will be.

The Long Beach Book Club will meet Thursday, September 24 a,t 9 a.m. at a member’s home. The book for September is Big Lies in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain. They have not set a meeting date for October at this time.

At this time, there are no plans to hold Preschool Story time, Parent’s Coffee, or schedule any type of group meetings at the library, due to social distancing restrictions. Our meeting rooms are being used for quarantine purposes.

Stay safe!
