Mississippi Aquarium's Member Exclusive Event Series: Aquarium Connections

Posted

Mississippi Aquarium's Education Team is proud to announce its newest member program, Aquarium Connections. This program, which launches on April 9th, will connect coastal scientists with the community through a lunch-time seminar series. Members and Mississippi Aquarium staff will have the opportunity to spend their lunch learning from local researchers as they discuss their conservation-oriented work, followed by a Q&A session.

The first Aquarium Connections presenter is Glenn Zapfe, a Research Fisheries Biologist for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. This program will continue every other month and will showcase a different local speaker from federal and state organizations, academic institutions and more.

Mississippi Aquarium is offering the event in-person in their large Changing Tides Event Center Presented by Keesler Federal Credit Union or virtually through Zoom to make the program accessible to all members. Lunch options will also be available for in-person participants.

"We wanted to provide this opportunity to our member community to educate about local conservation research and inspire action. Our three pillars at Mississippi Aquarium are community, conservation and education and we are excited that this program will unite these pillars. There is often a disconnect between scientists that conduct and publish their research and the dissemination of that information to the public. Aquarium Connections will help to bridge that gap by directly engaging scientists with our local community. We also hope that this program will foster connections between these scientists and Mississippi Aquarium," said Dr. Lauren Fuller, Education Program Analyst at Mississippi Aquarium.
