Singing River & MS Organ Recovery to Raise Participation & Awareness in Organ Donation Registry

Posted

The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency and Singing River Health System will partner

to host a presentation to the Jeune Espirit Service and Social Club to raise awareness in hopes to gain more participation in the national organ donation registry in order to save more lives through organ and tissue donation. The event will be held on Monday, June 27, at the Pascagoula Senior Center, from 10AM until 12PM.

Currently, there are over 100,000 people on the waiting list for a life-saving transplant. One organ donor can save 8 lives and can enhance the lives of 75 others through tissue donation.

The Jeune Espirit Service and Social Club will provide the paint for participants to paint rocks to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation in the local community. A QR code will be on the back of the rocks linking to more information on how to donate:

organ, eye and tissue donation, and Justin Smathers, Director of Critical Care with Singing River Health System, will present on the importance of being an organ and tissue donor.
