Special to Long Beach Breeze

On Saturday, September 28, the Long Beach High School Class of 1972, along with more than one hundred business and individual sponsors, will host a silent auction/raffle fundraiser to benefit the Long Beach Excellence in Education Foundation.

Set for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the USM Gulf Park campus’ Hardy Dining Hall, the event will feature many one-of-a-kind items and experiences and over $9,000 worth of donated items.

“There will be something for everyone at this event, including themed baskets, day and sunset cruises, fishing gear, tickets to local attractions and events, restaurant gift cards, pottery and fine art, car care items and jewelry,” says Denise Daniel, fundraising chair.

Admission to the event is free, and bidders and raffle ticket holders do not need to be present to win.

All funds raised will support scholarships for graduating seniors who want to further their career goals after graduation.  Qualifying applicants must demonstrate a financial need, must have demonstrated good moral character/conduct and must be in good academic standing while attending Long Beach schools.  After selection of the recipient(s) by a committee of school employees, the 501c3 Long Beach Excellence in Education Foundation will forward the raised funds to the student’s choice of a regionally-accredited academic, technical or vocational post-secondary institution.
