Pete McGoey emerged as the winner by a narrow four-vote margin in Long Beach’s runoff for alderman.

In an April 27 race matching two Republicans, McGoey received 185 votes (51 percent) to 177 votes (49 percent) for opponent Owen McNally.

McGoey serves as a bailiff at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. He’s a retired postmaster at the U.S. Postal Service. McNally is an attorney in Long Beach.

A political newcomer, McGoey says he seeks to move Long Beach forward after damage throughout the Harrison County community due to Hurricane Zeta earlier this year.

A 1974 Long Beach High graduate and Army veteran, McGoey thanked his wife, Rita, other family members, friends and supporters after the triumph.

McGoey also gave a shout out to Owen McNally who “ran a commendable race and was a formidable opponent.’’

Long Beach Mayor George Bass and city aldermen will be sworn in at City Hall during their first meeting in July.
