The City of Long Beach recently recognized Hue Roettele, owner and operator of the Rusty Pelican, as she celebrates forty years of business in the community.
Since its opening, the Rusty Pelican has been a beloved local establishment, serving generations of residents and visitors. Originally located on Highway 90, the restaurant was a staple of the Long Beach dining scene until 200,5 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi Gulf Coast, destroying both Roettele’s home and business.
Despite the setback, and “South Mississippi Strong,” Roettele’s determination never wavered. In June of 2007, a building permit was issued for the restaurant’s new location at 6174 Beatline Road, where it has continued to thrive.
Beyond her success in the business, Roettele has been an active part of the community, generously providing meals for City employees and supporting local initiatives over the years.
“Her dedication and perseverance serve as an inspiration, demonstrating the resilience that defines Long Beach,” says Long Beach Community Affairs Director Courtney Cuevas. “City officials extend their heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Roettele on this significant milestone.”
“The Rusty Pelican has been more than just a restaurant - it has been a gathering place and a cherished part of our community. We thank Ms. Roettele for her contributions and wish her continued success in the years ahead.”
