PAPER FOOLS BRINGS WONDERLAND TO COAST EPISCOPAL’S GAIL KEENAN ART CENTER THIS FRIDAY

The whimsical, paper-themed art of 13 artists from Mississippi and Louisiana will be featured at Coast Episcopal School’s Gail Keenan Art Center from March 28 – May 9, 2025.  Paper Fools in Wonderland opens this Friday night with a reception from 5 – 7 pm at the Long Beach arts center, located at 5065 Espy Avenue.

Curated by Bay St. Louis artist and photographer Ann Madden, the show’s theme will celebrate the 160th publishing anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Paper Fools and is back by popular demand, as Paper Fools was well received at the Gail Keenan Art Center in 2022 and 2023.

In addition to offering a first look at the unique, original pieces of art available for sale throughout the six week show, Friday’s reception will be complemented by dancers from the MS Gulf Coast Ballet Theatre, who will greet reception attendees and perform two, 15 minute segments of the Alice in Wonderland Ballet.  “Wonderland” culinary delights, created by Ruth O’Dwyer of Cook’s Day Off, will be offered.

In addition to works by Ann Madden, participating Paper Fools in Wonderful artists are:  Michelle Allee, Laurie Alan Browne, Lindsay Carraway, Suzanne Findeisen, Kat Fitzpatrick, Mary Hardy, Cecelia Hopes, George Ann McCullough, Church Goin Mule, Dale Pohl, Emmi Sprayberry, Kellie Talbot

The Gail Keenan Art Center was dedicated in February 2011 to the memory of the recognized ceramic artist and printmaker who was born in 1940 in New Orleans and passed away in February 2005.  Ms. Keenan’s ties to the MS Gulf Coast were strong throughout her lifetime, during which she had works exhibited in Santa Cruz, CA; New Orleans, LA; Chicago, IL; Kansas City, KA; Ocean Springs, MS; Camden, ME; and Boston, MA, Ms. Keenan’s love for the arts continues to be honored in the works created and exhibited in the Coast Episcopal School signature art center.
