Celebrate National Library Week April 7-13
By Guest Columnist Renee Rayburn, LBPL Youth and Technology Services
Hello, Long Beach! Here is what’s happening at the Long Beach Public Library in April.
National Library Week is April 7 – 13, and, along with story time on Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m., the Friends of the Library are also sponsoring Library Outreach Day on Wednesday, April 9. There will be refreshments served in the main wing and take-home craft kits. Also, patrons can purchase tickets for the drawing on a basket of spring-themed goodies that will be given away on Friday, April 11. Tickets may be purchased beginning Monday, March 31.
April 1 is not only April Fool’s Day, but it is also author Anne McCaffrey’s birthday! Come pick out a science fiction book in memory of the grandmaster, writer of such books as The Dragonriders of Pern and The Ship Who Sang. A display will showcase a variety of her books, from dragons to spaceships. Come find your favorite!
This month’s Family Movie Day will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m. in the children’s library. We invite everyone to come watch Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (G).
Puzzled for something new? Head over to the “Puzzle Swap” display next to the elevator and take a puzzle or leave a puzzle…or both! Drop off a puzzle that you no longer want, so someone else can enjoy it. Pick a puzzle to take home. Please note – the library is not responsible for any missing pieces.
As always, parents are invited to bring their little ones to Preschool Story Time each Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the children’s wing. Come listen to the story, make a craft and dance with your child to their favorite children’s songs.
The Long Beach Library Board of Trustees next meeting is Tuesday, April 8, at 4 pm. The public is invited to attend these meetings.
The library will be closed Saturday, April 26, through Monday, April 28, for a state holiday.
And as a final reminder, the library’s hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
For more information about any of our events or offerings, please give us a call at 228-863-0711. The library is located at 209 Jeff Davis Avenue.
As always, we thank everyone for their continued support and patronage, and stay safe!
