If a picture is worth a thousand words, how much more is the value of locally-crafted and homemade works of art by skilled artists and artisans?
The answer to this question can be found on any given Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Long Beach Art and Artisans Market, which is held weekly along Jeff Davis Avenue and Third Street in the downtown area.
About two dozen artists, artisans and arts and crafts businesses from across South Mississippi gather each Sunday in the Friendly City, showcasing their works of art and masterpieces, from paintings that capture the essence of the coastal area to hand carved woodwork and embroidery, all creations and decor shoppers can take home with them.
This downtown market is nestled in a picture-perfect setting, with the beach just blocks away and restaurants and other shops nearby.
Blackwater Studios, Fence Peepers and Yard Décor, the Little Stain Glass Company, and, of course, local artists “set up shop” at this market, which each week is attracting new artists and vendors. Some, such as Nancy Carson, left other venues to relocate and put their works of art up for sale at the Long Beach Art and Artisans market.
The market provides artists and artisans with the opportunity to socialize, get out of their studios and work spaces – at least for a short-while – and to earn income while also affording shoppers with a wide array of handmade, specially-crafted works of art, decorations and other locally-influenced creations that can brighten up people’s homes and also can be used as unique gifts for special occasions and holidays that are coming up – like Father’s Day, which is just around the corner.
