Free breast and cervical cancer screenings available at Singing River Cancer Center
Special to Long Beach Breeze
Singing River Cancer Center is now offering free mammograms and pap smears for eligible women through the Mississippi Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP). This initiative aims to remove financial barriers and expand access to life-saving cancer screenings, which helps more women detect breast and cervical cancer early, when treatment is most effective.
Through the Mississippi BCCP, Singing River Cancer Center will provide:
- Breast Cancer Screenings: Mammograms for women aged 40-64, along with diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, and breast biopsies, if indicated
- Cervical Cancer Screenings: Pap smear exams for women aged 21-64, with follow-up cervical biopsies, if indicated
Eligibility requirements for BCCP include:
- Must be uninsured or underinsured (Medicare or Medicaid recipients are not eligible)
- Resident of Mississippi for at least 12 consecutive months (proof of residency required)
- Household income at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level (proof of income required)
- Social Security numbers are not required for enrollment
“Early detection is crucial in the fight against cancer,” said Christina Metz, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, leader of Singing River’s BCCP. “By offering these free screenings, we’re ensuring that financial challenges don’t prevent women from accessing the essential care they need.”
Women who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply by visiting SingingRiverHealthSystem.com/BCCP, or by calling 228-809-5669 to speak with a BCCP Care Coordinator at Singing River Cancer Center.
