Hello Long Beach! Here is what’s happening at the Long Beach Public Library next month!
On September 27, from 6 to 9 p.m., the library will be having a Sock Hop at the Long Beach Recreation and Senior Center to raise funding for new computers for the patrons. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the library front desk, or you may purchase a ticket at the door. Tickets for adults cost six dollars each, and children’s tickets are three dollars each. There will be live music, karaoke, food, fun and games for all ages. This event is for anyone who enjoys music of the 50s and 60s. Dress as your favorite icon(s) from decades past and enter the costume contest. Thanks to all who have purchased tickets in advance or who have donated towards the new computers! Your support means so much! Hope to see you “at the hop”!
Are you ready for the “Car”dboard Cruise In? On Monday, October 6, at 1 p.m., Long Beach Public Library is kicking off the Cruisin’ the Coast festivities with a “CAR”dboard Cruise In for the kids. Customize a wearable cardboard box into a car and cruise in for a movie and snacks before the parade. Award certificates and/or prizes will be given to customized cars. For more details, call the library at 228-863-0711. If you need a box to build your car, let us know. We have been saving a few for the occasion, just in case.
Preschool Story Time will continue through October. Held each Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the children’s wing, this program is geared towards the 4 and under crowd. We read a story, make a craft, and dance to their favorite children’s songs.
The Long Beach Library Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday, October 14, at 4 p.m. in the meeting room of the main wing. The meeting is open to the public to attend.
On October 11, we will be having our second beginner yoga class at the library. The class starts at 11 a.m. and is geared for ages 15 and up. You must bring your own yoga mat and bottle of water. The class will be free to the public and held in the children’s wing. Spots are limited, so don’t forget to call the library to reserve your spot!
On Thursday, October 16, at 10 a.m., Long Beach Public Library and the Long Beach Recreation and Senior Center are partnering together to present a Scam Prevention Presentation. Attendees will learn about A.I., internet safety tips, and how to avoid scams. For more information, call the library at 228-863-0711 or the Senior Center at 228-868-7517. The event is free to the public.
Although the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library will not meet in October, it is the 20th anniversary of Friends of the Library Week from October 19 – 25. Celebrate all they do for your library by joining and becoming a member of the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library.
And, as a final reminder, the library’s hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9a.m. until 1 p.m.
