Hello, Long Beach!  Here is what’s happening at the Long Beach Public Library next month!

Here at the library, our staff is grateful for many things this year.  Whether it is family, friends, or personal health and wellbeing, we are all appreciative of our patrons, as well.  Young or old, small or tall, those who roar like a lion and those who are as studious as an owl, and everyone else in between…you are the reason we are here, and we thank you.

This November, we want to know what our patrons are most thankful for.  If you’d like to participate, simply come in and write it down on one of the turkey cut outs provided at the front desk, and you make take a book (or other book sale item) from the book sale home for FREE.

We are excited to announce that the Visiting Pet Teams of South Mississippi will be partnering with the Long Beach Public Library to bring their Sit, Stay, READ! Program to the library once a month starting in November.  The first program is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, and begins at 10 a.m.  If your child struggles with reading, Visiting Pet Teams of South Mississippi has a solution.  Their trained therapy dogs are not only the perfect audience but also offer a unique solution for children who need encouragement to improve their literacy skills in a nonjudgemental environment.  It’s free, and no registration is required.  However, we do ask that an adult accompany the child for this event.  For more information, please call the library at 228-863-0711.

Preschool Story Time will continue through November, unless we are closed for a holiday (holidays for November are listed below).  Held each Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the children’s wing, this program is geared towards the 4 and under crowd.  We read a story, make a craft and dance to their favorite children’s songs.

The Long Beach Library Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday, October 28, at 4 p.m. in the meeting room of the main wing.  This is the first meeting of the new year, and they will be welcoming newly-elected Board member Sue Hatem.  As always, the public is invited to attend.

The Friends of the Long Beach Public Library will meet on Monday, November 3, at 1 p.m.  They will be discussing upcoming Christmas events, so get ready for some holiday fun!

There will not be a beginner yoga class held in November.  However, we are planning on having one on Saturday, December 13, at 11 am.  We are grateful to Brittany Simmons of OneZen Wellness for hosting these at the library for the patrons.  The class is geared for ages 15 and up.  You must bring your own yoga mat and bottle of water.  The class will be free to the public and held in the children’s wing.  Space is limited, so don’t forget to call the library to reserve your spot!

The library will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, for Veterans Day.  We will reopen on Wednesday, November 12, at 9 a.m.  The library will also be closed from noon on Wednesday, November 26, through Saturday, November 29, for the Thanksgiving holidays.  We will reopen on Monday, December 1, at 9 a.m.

And, as a final reminder, the library’s hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

For more information about any of our events or offerings or to sign up for yoga, please give us a call at 228-863-0711. The library is located at 209 Jeff Davis Avenue.

As always, we thank everyone for their continued support and patronage and stay safe!
