Pass Christian Soccer Teams Advance to Quarter Finals
By Charlie Rook
Both men’s and women’s teams at Pass Christian high school defeated Richland on February 10th to advance to the quarterfinals of the MHSAA 4A soccer tournament.
For the ladies it was a 2-1 victory that got the job done, in a close contest. The Lady Pirates now run into a very dominant West Lauderdale team, in the first game the team won’t be favored in. West Lauderdale scored a combined 31 goals and conceded 0 through their opening rounds, and will be a tough out.
On the men’s side it was another close game, as the Pirates defeated Richland in a penalty shoot out. The game ended in a deadlock of 0-0, and took a 4-3 shootout victory to give Pass Christian the win. Richland were the favorite coming into the contest, ranked number 15 in the state, but the Pirate defense held strong, giving them the chance for a win on penalties. The men will now play a very talented Forest high school team, in another contest that looks to be a fun one.
