Disc golf takes flight in Long Beach

Long Beach residents and visitors now have a new way to enjoy the outdoors, with the opening of the Meadowoods Disc Golf Course, an 18-hole course designed to welcome players of all ages and experience levels.
Located behind the Long Beach Senior Center, the new public course adds another recreational attraction to the city, while introducing more residents to one of the nation’s fastest-growing sports. Disc golf combines the strategy of traditional golf with the fun of throwing specialized flying discs toward metal baskets in as few throws as possible.
The course was designed by local disc golf enthusiast Mike Smith in partnership with the City of Long Beach and Harrison County.

The course had a soft opening in April, but received its finishing touches in early July. Featuring 18 baskets, the layout offers a mix of open fairways, wooded challenges and varying hole lengths that appeal to both beginners and experienced players.
Unlike traditional golf, disc golf requires no tee times or expensive equipment. Players only need a few discs to enjoy a round, making the sport an affordable option for individuals, families and groups looking to spend time outdoors.
City leaders say they hope the addition of disc golf will encourage healthy recreation, increase park usage and provide another family-friendly activity for residents. The course complements Long Beach’s growing network of parks, walking trails, and outdoor amenities, further enhancing the city’s reputation as a community that values active lifestyles.
The Meadowoods Disc Golf Course is open to the public and free to play. The course is about two miles long and takes just under two hours to play. It is located behind the Long Beach Senior Center at 20257 Daugherty Road in Long Beach.
