Fourth Grade Students Step Into the Role of Real Scientists Through Hands-On Weather Investigation

Fourth grade students at Pass Christian Elementary School recently had the opportunity to experience science in action as they completed their first hands-on laboratory investigation of the school year.

As part of their classroom studies on weather patterns and climate, students designed and constructed their very own anemometers, instruments used to measure wind speed. After building their instruments, students took their investigations outdoors to test their creations and observe how they responded to the wind.

The hands-on experience allowed students to move beyond simply learning about weather from a textbook. They were able to design, build, test, observe, and think like scientists, applying what they have learned in the classroom to a real-world investigation.

Students eagerly worked together as they tested their anemometers, making observations and seeing firsthand how wind can be measured. The activity provided an engaging opportunity for students to develop scientific thinking and problem-solving skills while making meaningful connections between classroom learning and the world around them.
