Missions, concert to benefit food pantry and Veterans

Long Beach Breeze

With the holiday seasons approaching, VFW Eddy Blake Post 3937 is currently conducting two local missions to serve those with needs during this time.

The Post is hosting a food drive to support the Long Beach Food Pantry. A joint effort with Trax Bar and Grill, the drive is collecting non-perishable food, such as canned vegetables, cereal, ramen packages and pasta.

Donations to the food drive can be made every day at the VFW Post at 213 Klondyke Road, as well as at Trax Bar, located at 830 East Railroad Street.  The Post has tables set up in their hall for donations.

In addition to the daily food drive efforts, Trax will also host a “Rockin’ for a Cause” food drive and rock show on Saturday, November 2. Five bands will provide music beginning at 6 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring donations of non-perishable food or monetary/gift card donations for the pantry, and proceeds from the cover charge of $10 will be donated to the pantry, as well. The show, which concludes around 11 p.m., is designed for those ages twenty-one and over.

The Eddy Blake Post is also collecting cold weather gear and food for homeless Veterans, in conjunction with the Crusaders for Veterans.  Those who wish to donate to this effort are asked to stop by the Post any day after noon with non-perishable food, sleeping bags, blankets, socks and the like.
