It was back to business as the newly-elected Mayor and Board of Aldermen held their meeting within one hour of the City of Long Beach’s oath of office/swearing-in ceremony held at City Hall on Tuesday, July 1.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at 4 p.m., before the 5 p.m. scheduled meeting, and a new mayor, three newly-elected aldermen and four re-elected aldermen were officially sworn in. All officials were elected in the City of Long Beach’s April 1 municipal election.

Newly-elected Mayor Tim Pierce, who served on the Long Beach School Board for twenty years, has served as a Long Beach Alderman and has held lead roles at Stennis Space Center, easily won the mayor’s race with eighty-percent of the final vote. Pierce replaced two-term (former) Mayor George Bass, who announced last year he would not be seeking re-election.
Newly-elected aldermen who were sworn in at the July 1 ceremony were Ward 2 Alderman Jesse Allen, Ward 3 Alderman Joey Giuffria and Ward 5 Alderman Greg Bonds.
Re-elected aldermen who were sworn in for another four-year term were Alderman-at-Large Donald Frazer, Ward 1 Alderman Patrick Bennett, Ward 4 Alderman Timothy McCaffrey and Ward 6 Alderman Pete McGoey.

The City of Long Beach is governed by a mayor and seven elected aldermen, with six of these aldermen representing individual wards and one Alderman-at-Large selected by all city voters. City elections are held every four years.
Regular meetings of the Mayor and the Board of Aldermen are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at City Hall, located at 201 Jeff Davis Avenue. Meetings are scheduled at 5 p.m. All meetings are open to the public.
