Tour of Homes and Historical Society birthday celebration set for May 3

The Pass Post

A much-loved late spring event, the Pass Christian Historical Society’s Tour of Homes, will be held on Sunday, May 3, from 2 until 5 p.m.

For four decades, the Pass Christian Historical Society has shared the history of the city through the homes and gardens of its homes.

This year’s tour features four homes:

120 West Scenic Drive, The Blue Rose – circa 1848-50

The home of Philip Lagrange and Herbert Purlsey, it has been described as the most significant antebellum home in the western portion of Pass Christian. It is currently operating as an event venue and gallery, and this is its first appearance on tour since its renovation.

715 East Scenic Drive, circa 1840s

The home of Margaret and Cliffe Laborde, this is the last antebellum brick home in Pass Christian. It had an early 20th century renovation and reflects a style that was extremely popular in the Pass at the time.

723 East Scenic Drive

The home of Bridget and Robert (Bobby) Bories, this house has post-Katrina construction evoking a southern colonial style.

923 East Scenic Drive, circa 1920

The home of Cindy Walker and Dave Dennis was built on the site of the old Henry Ware home. It served as a school in the 50s and 60s. It has a Spanish tile roof and inviting portico.

In addition to viewing the four homes, tour participants are invited to visit the Pass Christian Historical Society at 201 East Scenic Drive for complimentary tea and hors d’oeuvres, as well as a celebration of the Pass Christian Historical Society’s 60th birthday.

The Historical Society was founded in 1966, but it wasn’t until the 1970s that it acquired an old bank building, which served as its home until Hurricane Katrina. The new (current) building was built at the same location, and the tea will be held there.

The Billy Bourdin Memorial Library will also be open, and archivist Bruce Stinson and local historical author Catherine Myers will be on hand to show tour participants around and answer questions.

Tickets for the Tour of Homes are $35 in advance and can be purchased at the Pass Christian Historical Society during operating hours and at any Historical Society event up until the date of the tour. Tickets will be $40 on the day of the Tour.

On the day of the Tour, May 3, tickets will be available beginning at 1:30 p.m.at 201 East Scenic Drive and at 1:45 p.m. at 923 East Scenic Drive. No other homes will offer day-of ticket sales.

Online tickets can be purchased via a link available at www.PassHistory.org/exhibits.

Wristbands for advance purchased tickets can be picked up at the Historical Society the day before the event.  On the day of the event, wristbands can be picked up at the Historical Society or at any home on the tour.

Parking will be at all homes, The Blue Rose, The Historical Society and on Hackett Lane. Parking signs will provide directions for available areas. There will be no golf cart transport this year.
