The Long Beach Yacht Club is extending an invitation to local youth out on school break to literally “put the wind” back in their sails.
The Long Beach Yacht Club is hosting its annual sail camp for youth in June. The first session runs from June 1 through June 12. The second session will be held from June 15 to June 26. Race week is scheduled for July 6 through 10.
Organizers say the camp has become one of the Gulf Coast’s signature summertime youth programs, blending hands-on sailing instruction with water safety education, teamwork and outdoor adventure.
The camp is designed for children and teenagers of varying experience levels, from beginners stepping into a sailboat for the first time to returning campers eager to sharpen their racing and navigation skills.
Throughout the month of June, participants will learn the fundamentals of sailing, including boat handling, knot tying, wind awareness, rigging techniques and on-the-water maneuvering. Instructors will also emphasize maritime safety and confidence-building while teaching campers how to work together under changing coastal conditions. The camp traditionally utilizes small training sailboats that allow students to gain direct experience steering and controlling vessels under instructor supervision.
