Long Beach High School Class of 1972 funds scholarship

The Long Beach High School (LBHS) Class of 1972 alumni have funded a $2,000 scholarship awarded to LBHS senior Davarion Lee. Through fundraising efforts and donations from classmates, the Class of 1972 established this scholarship three years ago and plans to continue offering it annually.

Lee, a 2026 graduate of Long Beach High School, will attend Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the fall, where he plans to pursue a career in process operations. During his time at LBHS, he played football and worked at Bull’s Restaurant. He is the oldest of four siblings and the son of Sidni King.

“Davarion is a people person, kind and open, and often goes out of his way to assist anyone in need,” said LBHS Counselor Marsha Bishop.

“Our hope is that this scholarship will help ease, even in a small way, the financial burden of the ever-increasing costs of post-secondary education. The Class of 1972 is honored to give back to the community and to the school district that gave so much to us,” said class representative Denise Daniel.

The scholarship funds are managed by the Long Beach Excellence in Education Foundation, which supports the Long Beach School District by supplementing programs for students and staff through donations and fundraising.
