Spirit Ribbons Return: Pass Christian High School Revives Nostalgic Football Tradition

Pass Christian High School is tapping into nostalgia and Pirate pride this football season as the Student Council revives a cherished tradition: game-day spirit ribbons. Spearheaded by Student  Council sponsor and ELA teacher Samantha Pierce, the initiative aims to unite the campus and community for all six home football games this year.

Available for just $1 from Mrs. Pierce or at the stadium home gate ticket tables, the ribbons are designed for students and faculty to wear on their shirts or backpacks throughout game week. Each  weekly design highlights the upcoming matchup with punchy catchphrases like “Tame the ‘Canes” and “Turn Back the Tornadoes.”

The revival has resonated strongly across generations of Pirates. PCHS alumna and current teacher Michelle Rogers embraced the return of the tradition, even bringing out her original pin  collection from her own high school days to display the new ribbons. “Our goal was to spread school spirit,” said Pierce. So, the PCHS Student Council is glad that everyone is having fun  anticipating the next ribbons and wearing them all week.

For faculty members who are also parents of graduating students, the tradition holds extra personal significance. Teachers Launa Murray and Andy Batten shared that they are purchasing extra  ribbons as keepsakes to preserve in their senior students’ yearbooks.

Additionally, students and faculty have the opportunity to collect all six home game ribbons for the chance to be entered into a gift card drawing on the last home game pep rally. They must have  all six ribbons with them, and they can be entered into the drawing during all three lunches; the winner for faculty/staff and students will be chosen at the last home game pep rally.

So far, Student Council has sold one ribbon for the Pirate’s first home game – the Jamboree against West Harrison, and this week – the Pirate’s 2nd home game against Purvis High School. With  halls filled with vibrant ribbons and game-day energy, the revived tradition is proving that Pirate pride never goes out of style.
