The results are in! A fish and hamburger were the focal points - and the winning combination - for the two top winners of the 2023 Long Beach Art Competition.

“The Little Hamburger” won the top prize in the competition’s category for five- to nine-year-old entrants. Six-year-old Olivia Brown is the artist behind the winning artwork.

Thirteen-year-old Emily Nash’s entry, titled “Mandarin Beauty,” was awarded top prize in the competition’s category for those ten to eighteen years of age.

Brown and Nash’s winning artwork will be displayed in the halls of Long Beach City Hall over the next year.

This year marks the inaugural Long Beach Art Competition, which will become an annual contest for young people who reside in the Long Beach School District who love art and want to share their creations with the world and those who visit Long Beach City Hall. There was no specific theme required to participate in the contest.

Brown and Nash were announced as this year’s winners of the 2023 Long Beach Art Competition at the October 17 Long Beach Board of Aldermen meeting at City Hall.

“The competition is a great opportunity to recognize and uplift the artistic talent of our city’s youth,” says City of Long Beach Community Affairs Director Courtney Cuevas, who organized the event.
