City announces youth art​ competition

The City of Long Beach is looking for young local artists who reside in the Long Beach School District to enter the Long Beach Art Competition. In its first year, the competition is designed to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of young Long Beach residents. Works chosen as the winning entries will be displayed for one year in Long Beach City Hall. 

Eligible mediums include paintings in oil, acrylic or watercolor; drawings in pastel, colored pencil, charcoal, ink or markers; collage; prints, including lithographs, silkscreen and block prints; photography; and mixed media.

Art work may be up to 26” x 26” x 4” in size, including the frame.​

All entries must be an original in concept, design and execution. 

There will be two age categories for the competition: ages five to nine, and ages ten to eighteen. No specific theme is required, and creativity is encouraged.

All artwork must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 6. Winners will be announced at the October 17 Board of Alderman meeting.

Entries should be submitted in person to Courtney Cuevas at Long Beach City Hall or can be emailed to Courtney.Cuevas@CityOfLongBeachMS.com. Submissions should include a high resolution image of the artwork and the application forms, which are available on the City’s website at CityOfLongBeach.MS under “City Events.”

Late submissions or submissions without the appropriate forms will not be accepted.
