Upgrades and new amenities are now in use at War Memorial Park in Long Beach, as a citywide parks improvements and upgrades project continues.

Recently, work to build a new pavilion was completed at the park, just west of the downtown area. The new pavilion provides residents and visitors with a free covered space for gatherings and events.

New bathrooms have also been installed at the park. In addition to these upgrades, a new fence will be constructed to enhance safety and security for those who visit.

The upgrades at War Memorial Park, including the installment of a new merry-go-round there last September, are part of a citywide parks improvement project that impacts six parks throughout Long Beach, improvements City leaders say are needed because of aging and outdated equipment and amenities.

In all, $750,00 was secured by the City of Long Beach and state representative Richard Bennett for park improvements. Funding is being used to add more age-appropriate equipment, to provide better security, and to offer more inclusive amenities in Long Beach parks.
