James Inabinet Curates Show at Coast Episcopal School’s Gail Keenan Art Center

Local naturalist and philosopher, James Inabinet, PhD, has chosen the Gail Keenan Art Center, on the campus of Coast Episcopal School in Long Beach, to showcase a unique, nature-inspired art exhibition. Dr. Inabinet, Director of La Terre Bioregional Center, Kiln, MS, has spent the last two months with 40+ artists who embarked upon a walkabout pilgrimage in the Bay St. Louis Community.
The overall goal of the pilgrimage was to deepen the artists’ spiritual connection with HOME through meditation and prayer. Works of the artists who were moved to embody their pilgrimage experience through art – be it framed pieces or performances of music, poetry, or storytelling – will be available for viewing at the Walkabout Pilgrimage Exhibition at the art center at Long Beach independent school.
This nature-inspired art show is being curated by Dr. Inabinet is a pilgrimage in its own right. Says Inabinet, “this is a journey to new or expanded meaning. We live in a community that blends nature and artifice. Nature is all around our houses, streets, and shops. Deep connection to nature often leads to greater stewardship.”
“Each exhibited art piece will be arranged to engender an atmosphere of ritual, to sharpen attention and allow attendees to experience a deeper connection as they spiritually come to know our community – our HOME – through art.”
In addition to the works of the walkabout artists, the exhibition will feature art, displayed in the Coast Episcopal Art Room adjacent to the GKAC Gallery, created by 4th, 5th, and 6th grade CES students, under the guidance of Art Teacher Mark Wilson. The CES students will be participating in an on-campus Walkabout Pilgrimage, led by Dr. Inabinet, on Monday, October 27. The students’ art will not be available for sale; the framed art pieces created by the adult artists will be available for purchase.
Dr. Inabinet’s Walkabout Pilgrimage Exhibition will open at the school gallery with a wine reception on Saturday, November 1, from 5 to 7 pm. At 6 pm, participating artists will provide personal presentations and talks.
From Monday, November 3 through Thursday, December 4th, the exhibition may be viewed by appointment Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm by calling Coast Episcopal School at 228-452-9442, ext 102. GKAC will be closed for Thanksgiving break – November 24-28.
The exhibition will close on Friday, December 5th and from 4-6 pm, participating artists again will provide personal talks. Attendees who have purchased art will be able to pick up their pieces at that time.
