Main Street announces Façade Improvement Grant Program
Special to Long Beach Breeze
Long Beach Main Street recently announced an opportunity for local businesses to apply for grants to help them revitalize and enhance the appearance of their storefronts.
In partnership with the Mississippi Power Foundation, the 2025 Long Beach Main Street Facade Grant Program is designed to help property owners and tenants upgrade building exteriors within the Main Street districts. Organization officials say that grants spark economic vitality, preserve historic character and encourage more investment in Long Beach.
Grants can be used for exterior restoration, including pressure washing, window cleaning, minor exterior repairs and exterior painting; lighting upgrades, such as decorative lighting or security lighting that improves visibility and pedestrian safety; awning and canopy addition or restoration; new or updated window or exterior building signage, in compliance with City ordinances; exterior murals whose concepts and design have been pre-approved; exterior landscaping and storefront planters; improvements to doors, windows and trim, including replacement or restoration of historically-appropriate doors and windows and painting or refinishing of trim and architectural details; or for the installation of restoration of balconies, cornices, handrails, columns and/or original design features, railings, ironwork and architectural accents that contribute to historic integrity. All work must meet City codes and permitting requirements.
In order to be eligible for a grant, a business must be located within the Long Beach city limits and be current on their Long Beach Main Street membership dues. The property must be zoned for commercial use and be current on all City and County taxes, and the applicant must be the property owner or commercial tenant.
The Long Beach Main Street Facade Grant Committee will review applications and make funding decisions. The maximum grant award is up to $2,000, with a 25% matching contribution required by the applicant. Reimbursement will be made after final receipts are submitted and approved by the Long Beach Main Street Facade Grant Committee.
