As Long Beach settles into a new year, many motorists may have noticed that 2025 ended with a reduction of speed on one of Long Beach’s most-traveled roadways.

On December 22, the speed limit on Jeff Davis Avenue officially dropped from 25 miles per hour to 15 miles per hour and is now being enforced.

The Long Beach Board of Aldermen voted in favor of the 10-mile-an-hour speed reduction on at the December 2 Board of Aldermen meeting, after the measure was introduced by Mayor Tim Pierce.

Pierce pulled from his own experience driving along Jeff Davis Avenue and other intersecting streets and introduced the speed reduction measure, citing concerns over the safety of pedestrians and those traveling in golf carts. Both forms of traffic have increased over the past few years, along with new and developing businesses along the thoroughfare.

City leaders say the update and reduction in the speed limit is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve safety in the downtown district for pedestrians, shoppers and drivers.
