The speed limit has been dropped to 15 miles per hour on Jeff Davis Avenue. The speed limit on East Railroad Street from Jeff Davis Avenue to the Gulfport City limits was also recently lowered from 40 to 30 miles per hour.
The speed limit along two of Long Beach’s most popular roadways has been reduced and is now being enforced.
On December 22, the speed limit officially dropped from 25 miles per hour to 15 miles per hour on Jeff Davis Avenue. The Long Beach Board of Aldermen voted in favor of the 10 mile an hour speed reduction on Jeff Davis Avenue at the December 2 Board of Aldermen meeting after the measure was introduced by Mayor Tim Pierce.
On January 20, a second speed limit reduction went into effect on East Railroad Street from Jeff Davis Avenue to the Gulfport city limits. The speed limit here has been lowered from 40 to 30 miles per hour. This is the same speed limit as West Railroad Street in Gulfport.
The Board of Aldermen voted 5-2 to reduce the speed limit during a recent board meeting.
City leaders say the update and reductions in the speed limits are part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve safety in the downtown district for pedestrians, shoppers and drivers.
