Residents urged to save the date for upcoming Radish Festival

With spring weather on the horizon, the City of Long Beach and Long Beach Main Street are reviving a celebration that was initially begun in 1991, the Long Beach Radish Festival.

Planned for Saturday, April 18, the festival will be held in the downtown area at City Hall on Jeff Davis Avenue. The family-friendly events will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will include food, radish-themed attractions, music, artisan vendors and even community exhibits that will celebrate the Friendly City’s history as a center of radish farming in the early twentieth century.

With Long Beach having been known as the “Radish Capital of the World,” organizers say they envision the festival offering the opportunity for attendees to learn more about local agriculture and the role it played in the area. In addition, radish-themed foods, including radish chips, will be in abundance.

For more information, vendor applications, festival schedules and parking, residents are encouraged to check the City of Long Beach and the Long Beach Main Street Facebook pages.
