The core mission of Memorial Day is to be a solemn day of remembrance to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Members of the Donnie Levens American Legion Post 1995 and the Eddy Blake VFW Post 3937 did just that, placing flags on the headstones of late veterans buried at local cemeteries.

The groups say the gesture, carried out each yeas, honors the memory of fallen heroes and service members who have passed and ensures they are remembered with the respect they deserve each Memorial Day.

In addition, banners were hung at the Harper McCaughan pavilion. Many of the banners were sponsored by family members and friends.
