Residents reminded of golf cart rules for City

The Pass Post

The Pass Christian Police Department is reminding citizens that all golf carts operated within the City limits must have a valid permit issued by the City and may only be driven by individuals who possess a valid driver’s license.

Qualified drivers who wish to operate a golf cart or low-speed vehicle in the city must first

contact the Pass Christian Police Department at 228-452-3300 and allow an officer to come to their home to inspect the golf cart/vehicle. Following a successful inspection, the owner must submit an application in person to the City Clerk to obtain an individual permit/decal for the cart or vehicle.

A registration fee of $100 is required for each permit and is payable at the time of registration. The permit is effective for as long as the registering owner owns the cart or vehicle.

All drivers must have a valid driver’s license or temporary learner’s permit and proof of financial responsibility or liability insurance coverage.  Drivers with learner’s permits must be accompanied by a fully-licensed driver. Child riders must be properly restrained as they would be in a car.

A map of roads that can be used by golf carts and low-speed vehicles is available at City Hall. The maximum speed allowed for the vehicles is 25 MPH, and the vehicles should be parked only on the street in a designated parking space, leaving room for at least one other golf cart to share the space.

Officers will be enforcing the regulations, and those failing to comply with City ordinances regarding golf cart permits and licensed operators will receive a citation.
