Bearcats Struggle to Contain Rushing Attack in Friday Defeat

The Long Beach Bearcats faced a challenging night Friday as they fell 47-14 to the Pascagoula Panthers, repeating the outcome of their matchup last October. From the opening kickoff, Pascagoula asserted control, establishing an early lead that Long Beach could never overcome. The loss marks the fourth consecutive defeat for the Bearcats, highlighting ongoing struggles both offensively and defensively this season.

Pascagoula was powered by standout running back Sean Norvel, who delivered a spectacular performance with 178 rushing yards and a touchdown, averaging an impressive 9.4 yards per carry. Norvel consistently broke through Long Beach’s defensive line, creating opportunities for the Panthers to sustain drives and dominate time of possession. The Panthers’ offense was balanced, mixing a strong ground game with timely passing, which kept the Bearcats off balance throughout the game. Defensively, Pascagoula applied pressure and forced several stops at critical moments, preventing Long Beach from mounting any serious rally.

Long Beach showed determination at times, managing to find the end zone twice, but turnovers and missed opportunities stalled any momentum. Their inability to slow down Norvel and contain Pascagoula’s rushing attack proved costly. The defeat drops Long Beach’s record to 1-6, leaving the team with an uphill battle as the season continues.

For Pascagoula, the victory snapped a five-game losing streak and improved their overall record to 2-5, providing a much-needed boost in confidence as they move deeper into district play. The Panthers will now turn their attention to a matchup with district rival Pearl River Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, hoping to build on the momentum from their decisive win. Long Beach, meanwhile, will aim to rebound when they face Picayune at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, looking to halt the losing streak and gain traction in the latter part of the season.
