Long Beach Senior Center to sizzle with Flavor Throwdown Fundraiser on February 21
By Toni Miles
Grill masters, Cajun cooks and pastry chefs will be among those lighting things up at the Long Beach Activity and Senior Center for a Flavor Throwdown fundraiser being put on by the Rotary Club of Long Beach.
Winners will walk away with not only trophies, but also bragging rights, as attendees cast their votes for their favorites after sampling food in the following categories: Jambalaya, Gumbo, Barbeque, Chili, Dessert, and Signature Dish.
“It’s going to be a community cookoff, the Long Beach Flavor Throwdown,” said Rotary Club of Long Beach member Jason Lindholm. “We have six categories to compete in, including Signature Dish, which is anything in the miscellaneous category, whatever you’re good at cooking.”
Event organizers are looking for both cooks and consumers!
To sign up to cook a dish and enter the food contest, text Lindholm at 228-343-2128 with the name and category of the dish to be entered.
The spirited culinary competition and fundraiser is set to take place at the Long Beach Senior Center, located on Daugherty Road, on Saturday, February 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Admission is only $5, which includes two tickets to vote. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Raffle winners will be announced at 7 p.m. at the event.
“Where else can you feed somebody for $5 a person?” Lindholm asks.
Proceeds from the Flavor Throwdown will benefit Rotary Club of Long Beach’s initiatives, focusing on community improvements, youth programs and local charitable efforts.
