The three documentaries will be screened at the Biloxi Visitor’s Center Theater, located at 1050 Beach Blvd in Biloxi, on Wednesday, March 4. Showtimes are scheduled for 10:15 to 10:45 a.m., 11:00 to 11:30 a.m., and 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The first 30-minute documentary, “Gulf Coast Heritage Tours,” highlights over 160 heritage sites throughout the region, guiding viewers through historic landmarks, art galleries, and museums that reflect the deep and diverse history of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The film serves as both an educational experience and a travel guide, encouraging residents and visitors alike to explore the cultural treasures found across the area.
The second installment, “Gulf Coast Heritage Culture Tours,” focuses on the people who have shaped the Coast’s identity. Through compelling storytelling, the documentary shares the cultural and ethnic heritage of local communities, along with the industries, churches, traditions, foods, festivals, and events that continue to define life along the Gulf. The film features the personal stories of families whose roots trace back to Native American, French, Irish, Spanish, Danish, Croatian, Greek, Italian, African-American, Indian, Jewish, Vietnamese, German, Lebanese, and Finnish settlers, underscoring the rich multicultural fabric of the region.
The final 30-minute film, “Celebrate Our Waterways,” turns attention to the natural beauty of Mississippi’s southern six counties. Highlighting the rivers, bays, and the Gulf, the documentary encourages viewers to experience the Coast’s scenic blueways and the wide variety of outdoor recreational activities available to people of all ages and abilities. From peaceful river excursions to coastal adventures, the film showcases opportunities to connect with the area’s unique environment.
The MS Coast Heritage Tours project was made possible through a Mississippi Gulf Coast National Heritage Area Grant awarded by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources in partnership with the National Park Service.
