Unearth at Story at the library this summer
Long Beach Breeze
The Long Beach Library’s 2026 Summer Reading program activities kick off June 2, with registration available in one of two ways:
- By visiting the library and filling out a paper form in the children’s wing, or
- Online by visiting the Long Beach Public Library’s website at www.LongBeach.lib.ms.us and clicking on the Summer Reading 2026 – Unearth a Story Logo.
The online form will allow you to register new participants, and a confirmation email will be sent to you after registering each person for the summer reading program.
Registration is only required for children attending programs, ages preschool through grade eight. Children may pick up reading logs beginning in June once they are registered.
This year’s theme, “Unearth a Story,” is about discovery. Much like the Earth and the multitude of treasures it holds while awaiting explorers to uncover them, stories await along shelves to be discovered by their readers.
This year, registered participants will get to take part in an “Adopt a Dino” program at the library. Dinos available for “adoption” can be chosen from the different places displayed in the children’s wing, and children will earn stickers for completing tasks with the care of their dinosaur, such as reading to it, drawing a picture of it, posting activities to social media, etc.
The library has put together programs for different age groups again this year, so parents are encouraged to keep in mind when attending the programs that not all events are geared for all ages. Schedule times and age groups vary from day to day. Programs dealing with small objects are not for preschoolers. Likewise, tweens may become bored if the program is geared for a younger age level.
For more information, call the library at 228-863-0711, or contact Renee Rayburn, Youth and Technology Services, at RRayburn@longbeach.lib.ms.us.
The library is located at 209 Jeff Davis Avenue.
