20TH YEAR REMEMBERANCE OF HURRICANE KATRINA

WHAT: 20th Year Remembrance of Hurricane Katrina

WHEN: Friday, August 29, 2025, 6:00 pm

WHERE: War Memorial Park, 101 Fleitas Ave., Pass Christian, MS 39571

WHY: This solemn gathering will honor the memory of those lost, recognize the resilience of the Pass Christian community, and reflect on the two decades of recovery and growth since one of the  most devastating storms in American history. The ceremony will feature remarks from distinguished leaders, public officials, and community voices including:

     • Carrie Duncan, Host of Ceremonies’ former WLOX Meteorologist
     • Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch
     • U.S. Representative Mike Ezell
     • MS USDA State Director Dane Maxwell
     • MS Commissioner of Public Safety Sean Tindell
     • Executive Director MDMR, General Joe Spraggins
     • MS Workers Compensation Commission Judge Jenny Nicaud
     • MS State Senator Mike Thompson
     • MS State Representative Carolyn Crawford
     • Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley
     • Harrison County Supervisors Nathan Barrett, Dan Cuevas, Kent Jones, Marlin Ladner, and
        Rebecca Powers
     • Former Pass Christian Mayor Leo “Chipper” McDermott “

Our city is forever marked by the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, but also by the strength, unity, and faith that carried us forward,” said Alderman Kimball. “This remembrance is about honoring  lives lost, recognizing the heroes who helped us recover, and recommitting ourselves to a stronger, more resilient future.” The public is invited to attend this free event. Residents, survivors, first responders, and community members are encouraged to gather in reflection and solidarity as Pass Christian honors its past and looks toward the future.
