PCES’ music teacher brings stories to life through Music
Special to The Pass Post
At Pass Christian Elementary School, the library isn’t the only place where stories come alive. In the music room, elementary students are discovering that every book has a soundtrack, thanks to the creativity of music teacher, innovator and 2025 PCES Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Cherynne Wright.
Through a unique approach that blends literature and music, Wright is helping young learners deepen their comprehension skills while sparking a lifelong love of reading. Students don’t just read a story, they sing it, play it and feel it. A suspenseful scene might be echoed in a drumbeat, a joyful moment expressed in melody, or a character’s journey portrayed through rhythm and movement.
By integrating literature with music, students can explore the emotions of the story while also reinforcing skills such as sequencing, vocabulary and story structure. This approach to teaching and learning emphasizes the idea that learning is a shared responsibility, while keeping students actively engaged in the learning process.
