GCVA plans annual run/walk for Nov. 8, followed by parade

The Pass Post

The Gulf Coast Veterans Association (GCVA) is hosting its second annual GCVA 5K run and walk on Saturday, November 8. The scenic race begins and ends at Pass Christian’s War Memorial Park, and organizers say it promises a morning of fitness, community and celebration to honor local veterans.

Registration begins onsite at 7 a.m., with the 5K starting at 8 a.m. The one-mile fun run will begin at 9:30 a.m., and awards will start at 10 a.m. The morning will conclude with the Veterans Day Parade, which will roll at 11 a.m.

Age group awards and overall male and female awards will be given. In addition, there will be awards in the “Heavy Load” category: women who carry a minimum of 12 pounds and men who carry a minimum of 20 pounds (using a tactical vest, plates or rucksack). Finisher shirts, food and a post-race celebration will also be available at the park.

Registration costs are $30 for the 5K and Heavy Load runs, and $20 for the fun run. Online registration is available at RunSignup.com, and onsite registration will also be available.

Ninety-five percent of proceeds and donations will directly benefit veterans across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The third annual Veterans Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the Pavilion at Davis and Second Street and will travel south down Davis (with a pause for toasting). It will then move east onto Scenic and end at War Memorial Park. The patriotic fun will continue in War Memorial Park following the parade, with vendors, food trucks and live music.

War Memorial Park is located at Highway 90 and Flietas Avenue.
