Newly-elected officials, including incoming Long Beach mayor Tim Pierce, two new aldermen and five re-elected incumbent aldermen will officially take office on Tuesday, July 1, just one hour before the first Board of Aldermen meeting for City officials chosen in the April 1 municipal primary in Long Beach.
The meeting starts at 5 p.m. at City Hall, following the official swearing-in ceremony at 4 p.m. at at 201 Jeff Davis Avenue. The public is invited to attend.
With no Democrat or Independent candidates running in the City’s mayoral or aldermen races in the April 1 primary, Long Beach voters decided who will serve the next term as Mayor and as the City’s six aldermen, who represent wards one through six, plus the alderman-at-large, making seven total aldermen positions.
Being at the helm is not new to newly-elected Long Beach Mayor Tim Pierce, who brings experience from multiple fronts. Pierce has served on the Long Beach School Board for twenty years, including as School Board President, has served as a Long Beach Alderman and has held lead roles at Stennis Space Center.
Reconstruction of City property and supporting economic growth top Pierce’s agenda.
Pierce replaces two-term Mayor George Bass, who announced last year he would not be seeking re-election.
In the Long Beach Aldermen’s races, the Republican primary election also determined who the next Board of Aldermen will be, as no Democrats or Independents ran for the ward or Alderman-at-Large seats in the election.
Incumbent aldermen who will be sworn in for the next term are Alderman-at-Large Donald Frazer, Ward 1 Alderman Patrick Bennett, Ward 4 Alderman Timothy McCaffrey, Jr. and incumbent Ward 6 Alderman Pete McGoey. They will be joined by newly-elected Ward 2 Alderman Jesse Allen, newly-elected Ward 3 Alderman Joseph “Joey” Giuffria and newly-elected Ward 5 Alderman Greg Bonds.
The election results were finalized on April 8. Terms for each of those elected begin on July 1 after the 4 p.m. swearing-in ceremony.
