Gautier Overpowers Long Beach 28–6 in Friday Night District Clash
The Long Beach Bearcats ran into a determined Gautier Gators squad on Friday night, falling 28–6 in a district matchup dominated by the Gators’ passing game.
Gautier quarterback Keon McNeil delivered an impressive performance, throwing for 235 yards and four touchdowns. His favorite target, Devon Garrett, turned in a standout night of his own, hauling in four touchdown catches and racking up over 150 yards receiving. The pair connected repeatedly on big plays that kept the Bearcats’ defense under pressure throughout the evening.
Long Beach entered the contest hoping to build momentum after showing flashes of improvement in recent weeks. The Bearcats moved the ball effectively in stretches but struggled to finish drives. Their lone touchdown came late in the game, cutting into Gautier’s commanding lead but not enough to spark a comeback.
The defeat dropped Long Beach to 1–5 on the season, while Gautier improved to 3–3, securing an important district win after a tough road loss the week before. The game also marked Gautier’s sixth consecutive victory over Long Beach, continuing a trend of dominant performances in the series.
Head coach Jacob Ayers praised his team’s effort but acknowledged that execution must improve. “We’re competing, but we have to capitalize when we get chances,” he said. “Gautier played a clean game, and that made the difference.”
With the regular season entering its final stretch, Long Beach will return home this Friday to host Pascagoula in another key district showdown. Gautier, meanwhile, will travel to face Pearl River Central, looking to build on the momentum of Friday’s win.
Kickoff for Long Beach’s next game is set for 7 p.m., with the Bearcats eager to defend their home field and turn the corner in district play.
